Abstract

According to the recent research materials, it has been established that it is not necessary literally to make a copy of a biological prototype in order to design self-sharpening tillers implements, as there are no prototypes in the wild-life which either work in the identical conditions or have the same objectives. While designing the self-sharpening tillers implements it is expedient to use partially the wild-life principles as well as to take into account the achievements of the engineering science. The paper suggests engineering and constructive methods for achieving the self-sharpening effect of the most widely used tillers implements with due regard to operating conditions. The basic parameters of a double-layer self-sharpening implement include: the correlation of a wear-out resistance on the one hand and of the geometric parameters of a base material and of a wear resistant covering on the other hand, the parameters correlation of a wear-resistant covering in different parts of an implement, the initial sharpening angle and the side of wear-resistant covering. The operational testing’s gave evidence to the expedience of introducing the strengthened implements for achieving the sharpening effect on all soil types. The self-sharpening of tillers implements results in reducing the draw bar resistance of a device as well as in reducing the fuel consumption by 10…12%.
