Overview of the current situation and ways to improve the efficiency of last-mile delivery in the e-commerce sector
Abstract
The rapid growth of the e-commerce sector has led to significant advances in logistics and supply chain management. As a significant component of e-commerce, efficient and effective last-mile delivery plays a crucial role in increasing customer satisfaction, reducing operating costs and minimising environmental impacts. Often considered the most challenging stage of e-commerce order delivery, last-mile logistics involves moving goods from a distribution centre to the door of the end consumer. It covers many complex issues including route optimisation, addressing the impact of urban congestion, preferences of customers concerning the delivery time and the need for fast delivery. To address these issues, researchers and industry leaders have developed and implemented a variety of solutions that involve the use of innovative technologies and new delivery models.
This article presents a comprehensive overview of existing e-commerce supply chains, explores different approaches to solving the last-mile delivery problem, and analyses the logistics systems of e-commerce market leaders and their best practices and strategies. Also, the paper contains a review of the current state of e-commerce supply chains. Through understanding the challenges and exploring different approaches and best practices, stakeholders will have the information they need to make informed decisions to improve their own logistics systems, increase customer satisfaction and develop in the dynamic e-commerce landscape.
