Impact of vehicles on climate change when using traditional and alternative fuels

Abstract

One of the main areas of prevention of critical impact on the environment is the use of alternative fuels, in particular biodiesel fuels, on vehicles. Measures to minimize the impact of motor transport and its infrastructure on the environment can significantly improve the quality of the surrounding environment and have a positive effect on people's health. When evaluating the effectiveness of certain directions for improving the environment, it is necessary to apply a comprehensive approach that analyzes the activity of motor vehicles throughout their entire life cycle. This approach will make it possible to find the optimal ratio between the positive and negative consequences of using any solution, namely biodiesel fuel, and to prevent the increase in the consumption of natural resources and the emission of certain substances while reducing the impact of other environmental pollutants.

The purpose of the work was to determine the environmental consequences for the climate when bi-diesel fuel is used in vehicles. А comprehensive assessment of the impact on the environment was carried out with the help of a computer program during the operation of basic models of VOLVO tractors that use biodiesel fuel of different composition. It was established that a slight decrease in CO2 emissions is accompanied by a significant growth of NOx emissions, water and energy consumption when using first-generation biodiesel fuel.
