Abstract

It has been proven that while motorization increases the convenience of transportation, it also has significant negative consequences, including air pollution, destruction of green spaces, congestion, and an increase in traffic accidents. These problems are particularly pronounced in large cities, where a lack of roads, inefficient traffic, and parking problems worsen the traffic situation. Intersections are among the most dangerous places and therefore require special attention. To reduce risks, solutions such as synchronizing traffic lights, building roundabouts, and developing public transport are important. In particular, roundabouts can reduce the number of traffic accidents, reduce congestion, reduce waiting times, fuel costs, and emissions, which increases overall safety and efficiency of transportation.

As a result of the analysis of the practice of applying circular traffic at intersections, as well as scientific research in this area, it was found that circular traffic at intersections is not implemented in all cities of Ukraine, and the analysis of world developments in circular traffic has reached far ahead, so it is quite relevant for domestic researchers.

The article considers specific examples of the introduction of roundabout traffic at five intersections in the Industrial District of Kharkiv with different types of traffic organization, configuration, size, parameters of traffic and pedestrian flows, etc. According to the results of traffic modeling at intersections, the expediency of using roundabouts at intersections is substantiated, which allows to increase the traffic capacity by 1.5 times, reduce traffic delays by 3.2 times, reduce emissions of harmful substances by 1.6 times and almost double the safety of traffic at intersections.

The evaluation of roundabouts confirms their effectiveness and provides a scientific basis for expanding this practice in cities. Roundabouts reduce accidents, traffic congestion, and improve conditions for pedestrians and cyclists, creating a safer transportation infrastructure, particularly for Kharkiv.
