Assessment of the efficiency of implementation of traffic calming means at the intersection

Abstract

The relevance of solving the problem of continuous improvement of the organization of road traffic, which is connected with the continuous growth of the number of cars and the backward development of the street and road network of cities, has been proven. The constant increase in road traffic, and therefore a sharp increase in direct contacts between road users, which in many cases have the character of conflict situations, often turn into traffic accidents. Therefore, the article proposes to consider such a modern means of traffic management as its calming.

The analysis of the existing means of traffic regulation made it possible to identify their main shortcomings and advantages, which, as it turned out, do not solve the problem of the main contradiction of the requirements of traffic organization - ensuring the safety of traffic along with its maximum efficiency.

The article analyzes the application of various schemes of traffic organization at the intersection, where, along with the implementation of traffic light regulation, options for the application of various types of traffic calming agents are considered. As a result of the study, it has once again been proven that traffic light regulation is an effective means of ensuring road traffic safety at the intersection, but at the same time, the possibility of using traffic calming devices, which may be accompanied by additional speed limits when vehicles pass through the intersection, should be taken into account. And although this can lead to increased delays, additional stops and longer traffic jams, it is a means of reducing the number of road accidents and the severity of injuries to road users. The most effective means of calming traffic at an intersection is a road hump.
