The article is devoted to the analysis of modern approaches to planning, reconstruction and rethinking the functioning of cemeteries in Ukraine and the world. Particular attention is focused on the formation of military burial sectors in the context of the growth of their role in the conditions of a full-scale war. The historical evolution of burial forms, architectural and urban planning trends, environmental challenges and modern standards of improvement that determine the transformation of memorial territories are considered. An important component of the study is the analysis of the competitive work “Concept of arranging a military burial sector at a city cemetery in the village of Garazdzha, Lutsk district, Volyn region” (code 150007), which demonstrates the possibilities of implementing a comprehensive landscape and architectural approach. The project focuses on creating an orderly compositional structure, using unified tombstones, integrating nature-oriented solutions, forming routes for visitors and zones of individual and collective commemoration. The article highlights the key problems of the industry: the shortage of places for traditional burials, the environmental vulnerability of inhumation, the limited development of alternative forms, the fragmentation of regulatory support and the lack of organization of military sectors. The experience of the USA and Germany is analyzed, where orderliness, minimalism and naturalness form the model of modern memorial spaces. Based on the review, recommendations were formed for the sustainable development of burial areas, improving the regulatory framework and implementing inclusive, ecological and emotionally balanced solutions in the practice of designing military sectors in Ukraine.
