The article considers the issue of substantiating the parameters of traffic light regulation and improving the organization of road traffic on a city highway with intensive transport and pedestrian traffic. Particular attention is paid to increasing the efficiency of the functioning of a controlled intersection in conditions of significant intensity of traffic flows and high concentration of pedestrian traffic, which is characteristic of the modern city street and road network, especially for residential areas.
A comprehensive analysis of the planning characteristics of the studied area, the geometric parameters of the roadway, the conditions of vehicles movement and pedestrians, as well as the features of the organization of traffic within the intersection, was carried out.
In the process of scientific research, an assessment of the traffic flows intensity and pedestrian traffic by direction was performed, saturation flows were determined for individual lanes and phase coefficients were calculated, which made it possible to establish rational parameters for the operation of the traffic light facility. Based on the results obtained, the optimal duration of the traffic light regulation cycle was calculated, and the time parameters of individual phases and intermediate cycles were determined, considering the requirements of road safety, the capacity of the intersection and the need to ensure safe crossing of the carriageway by pedestrians.
When developing measures to improve road traffic management, the needs of low-mobility population groups were taken into account, in particular, the requirements for the accessibility of pedestrian infrastructure and sufficient duration of pedestrian intervals. Engineering and organizational solutions were proposed, aimed at reducing traffic delays, increasing the level of safety for all road users, and the operation modes of traffic light regulation were optimized and more comfortable and safe travel conditions were created for all categories of users of the street and road network.
