Trends in transport development: global trends and local context

Abstract

The article analyses global transport trends and their significance for Ukraine, taking into account the socio-political context of recent years. In particular, the problems of transport financing are considered, the need to find transparent and sustainable financial alternatives is substantiated, and attention is paid to the best practices of the world's leading countries in improving the efficiency of transport financing. The role of electric vehicles in the change of generations in the field of mobility is considered. The dynamics of sales of electric vehicles over the past ten years and their share in the market as a whole are analysed. Attention is paid to the issues of sustainable development and environmental friendliness of the transport industry in the context of compliance of Ukraine's state policy with the principles of the European Green Deal. Alternative sources of energy for transport that can overcome the disadvantages of electric vehicles with a low range and the need for frequent charging, their advantages and disadvantages are considered. The article reveals the concept of digitalisation and artificial intelligence as a driving force behind the rapid technological development of the transport industry, which allows saving money by optimising many processes. One of the most progressive areas of digital transformation is identified as self-driving cars, and their undeniable advantages and obstacles to mass adoption are considered. The author reviews the concept of inclusiveness and accessibility of public transport, which is of particular importance for Ukraine, since due to the full-scale invasion, the topic of inclusion and inclusive access in Ukraine has become even more frequent and in the coming years the state, cities, government agencies and businesses will definitely have to reformat their accessibility, take into account the needs of affected people in movement and affected regions in reintegration.
