The enemy continuously employs strike unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to conduct aerial attacks against Ukrainian cities. Every night and on a daily basis, personnel of the National Guard of Ukraine perform combat duty as part of mobile fire groups in order to effectively accomplish tasks related to the air defense coverage of critical infrastructure facilities, as well as other state and strategic military assets that may potentially be targeted by UAVs of the “Shahed” type.
The establishment of mobile fire groups is a forced but necessary measure. Their primary purpose is to enhance the protection of Ukrainian airspace, provide localized defense of critical infrastructure, and safeguard state and strategic military facilities that may become targets of enemy UAV strikes.
The use of light trailers towed by passenger vehicles of various operational categories for the execution of combat tasks by mobile fire groups represents an important step toward increasing the effectiveness of countering aerial threats and expanding the number of firing positions during air raid alerts. This approach enables the creation of additional mobile platforms for the deployment of weapon systems, which can rapidly relocate, providing a significant advantage in a dynamic combat environment.
Equipping light trailers with weapon-mounted turrets and other combat modules makes it possible to establish fully functional firing positions for mobile fire groups capable of effectively delivering fire support and engaging enemy aerial targets. Such trailers can be utilized not only with passenger vehicles but also with other types of platforms, including buggies, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), and specialized unit vehicles. This significantly enhances mobility and the operational employment of firepower assets in various conditions, including complex terrain and confined areas.
In addition, a key factor is the economic efficiency of using light trailers compared to alternative solutions such as pickup trucks or other specialized vehicles. The cost of a light trailer is significantly lower—by several orders of magnitude—making them more accessible for equipping a large number of units. Under such conditions, light trailers represent an optimal solution for ensuring both mobility and combat capability of units while minimizing financial expenditures. This approach not only reduces budgetary costs but also increases the number of mobile fire groups, thereby enhancing the overall combat effectiveness and operational capability of forces involved in air defense missions.
